As the vehicle was approaching very quickly, he pulled over into a passing place, but no vehicle passed. He was concerned there had been
an accident and he turned his car and went back along the road. There was no trace of any vehicle. Returning from Lionacleit he got out of the car with a torch and searched the moor on both sides of the road. There were no marks or any other indication of an accident. Old Friends & Happy Days

At the end of the year thoughts turn to old friends. This picture from our collection shows old work mates; Bert McDaid, DJ MacDonald and John Monk. They worked for many years together in the MT section of the MOD. Bert was originally from Donegal and enlisted with the RAF at the outbreak of the war. He was posted from Biggin Hill to Benbecula in 1941/42 where he met and married Kate Ann MacDonald. Bert served in Germany for three years and during this time the family moved to Glasgow. They finally returned to Benbecula in 1952.
